Here are some common questions arising from some of the concerns raised about COVID-19 prevention, symptoms, its treatment, and transmission.  

  1. Can people of all ages, areas, or religions get COVID-19? 

Yes! People of any age, religion, ethnicity, or gender have an equal chance of contracting and transmitting COVID-19. According to WHO older people and people with pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus. 

  1. Do people recover from COVID-19?

Yes! Most people who contract COVID-19 have mild symptoms and can recover with simple supportive healthcare in addition to the serious coronavirus cases. While there is no cure for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. However, many of its symptoms can be treated and therefore healthcare providers manage patients based on their clinical conditions. Moreover, supportive care for infected persons can be highly effective. 

  1. Can wearing a mask for a long time affect me?

The continuous use of a face mask can be uncomfortable, but it cannot affect your health. The WHO advises that one should not re-use a disposable mask. Always change your mask as soon as it gets damp. Because these masks act as a physical barrier against respiratory droplets and germs, they can also transfer those particles onto other surfaces. 

  1. Does hot weather kill the COVID-19 virus? 

COVID-19 can be transmitted in any weather including very cold, very hot or humid weather. This means that no matter how hot or cold it gets where you live, you can still catch COVID-19. 

  1. Does taking a bath with hot water prevent COVID-19? 

Taking a bath with hot water will not cure or prevent COVID-19 infection. Also, note that your body temperature does not go beyond the normal 370C no matter how hot your bath is. It is dangerous to take a bath in extremely hot water as this may burn you. 

  1. Does taking vitamin supplements help cure COVID-19? 

Experts agree that vitamins boost your immune system but there is no proof that they can be used in treating COVID-19. 

  1. Does drinking the ginger, lemon, garlic and honey concoction prevent COVID-19? 

According to WHO, there is no scientific evidence that lemon and ginger prevent COVID-19. Food items like garlic, black pepper, honey and ginger do not protect from COVID-19. 

  1. Does gargling with salt water protect from COVID-19?

 While gargling is a popular home remedy for a sore throat, there is no evidence to suggest that it would prevent COVID-19.

  1. Do medicinal plants/herbs help treat COVID-19?

Scientists have not yet supported the usage of any medicinal plants in the treatment of COVID-19. 

  1. Does drinking a lot of water prevent COVID-19?

 NO!  For maintaining overall health and well-being, drinking enough water matters, however, it does not protect from COVID-19. 

Remember, the best way to prevent COVID-19 is by:  

  1. Wearing a mask
  2. Washing your hands with soap and water.
  3. Observing social distance.
  4. Take the COVID-19 vaccine. Taking theCOVID-19 vaccine will help you to reduce the risk of severe sickness in case you get the infection.
